India Expands Affordable and Quality Healthcare for All: JP Nadda

New Delhi, May 20: Jagat Prakash Nadda, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Health Minister, addressed the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Nadda reaffirmed India’s health policies and its unwavering commitment to global health. He stated, “I addressed the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, expressing India’s steadfast dedication to Universal Health Coverage, digital health innovations, and global health solidarity.”

He emphasized that India is rapidly expanding affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare services for all citizens, inspired by a ‘whole-of-government’ and ‘whole-of-society’ approach.

Highlighting the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Nadda noted that over 880 million Indians have been issued unique digital health IDs. This digital ecosystem has played a crucial role in making healthcare services seamless, integrated, and transparent. Patients can now access their medical history, medications, reports, and treatment information with just one click, improving both the efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery.

Nadda also stressed the future of artificial intelligence (AI), advocating for its development to be ethical, inclusive, and human-centered. He asserted that AI should be utilized to provide equitable and reliable healthcare globally, rather than being restricted to a select few.

Reiterating India’s role as the ‘pharmacy of the world’, Nadda highlighted the country’s leadership in producing affordable generic medicines and vaccines. Reflecting on India’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, he mentioned that under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative, India supplied nearly 300 million vaccine doses to around 100 countries, showcasing the nation’s unwavering commitment to global health cooperation and solidarity.

He concluded his address by stating, “With a spirit of solidarity, let us move this assembly towards transforming policies into tangible outcomes and shared responsibility into a healthier future for all.”
