New Delhi witnessed a key diplomatic engagement as India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with his Canadian counterpart, Foreign Minister Anita Anand. The meeting, confirmed by Minister Jaishankar on social media platform X, focused on deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
“Had a constructive discussion with Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand this morning to enhance mutual cooperation and address ongoing high-level issues,” S. Jaishankar shared.
This dialogue builds on the momentum generated during last year’s G7 Summit in June, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met to boost India-Canada relations. Following that, both nations reinstated their High Commissioners and announced a shared roadmap for future collaboration, unveiled during Anand’s visit to India in October 2025.
Earlier this month, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met British Columbia’s Premier David Eby to emphasise the importance of continuous engagement for unlocking new opportunities. Goyal highlighted discussions focusing on strengthening the India-Canada economic partnership, enhancing trade and investment, and exploring cooperation in critical sectors including minerals, manufacturing, clean energy, technology, education, defence, and innovation.
Highlighting the significance of innovation, the Indian Consulate General in Toronto hosted the ‘India-Canada AI Dialogue 2026’ on January 21. This event, organised in partnership with Waterloo University, India Tech Council, and Zoho Inc., underlined the importance of collaboration in artificial intelligence for shared economic and social benefits. The dialogue is considered one of the largest AI summits in the Global South and was held ahead of the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ scheduled in New Delhi on February 19-20.
These high-level conversations reflect a steady effort by both countries to strengthen their partnership and explore new avenues for cooperation in the coming years.
