India and Vanuatu Strengthen Bilateral Ties Through Ministerial Meeting

Port Vila, April 23: India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, met with Vanuatu’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and External Trade, Javier Emmanuel Harry, on Thursday. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

Margerita reaffirmed India’s commitment to being a reliable partner in Vanuatu’s development efforts.

Following the meeting, the Minister shared on the social media platform X, “It was a pleasure to meet with Vanuatu’s Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Javier Emmanuel Harry. India and Vanuatu share a strong partnership based on mutual trust and shared values.”

He added, “We had fruitful discussions on advancing bilateral development cooperation, particularly in health, capacity building, and climate-resilient infrastructure. We also discussed collaboration in multilateral forums. India remains a dedicated and trustworthy partner in Vanuatu’s development journey.”

On Wednesday, Margerita visited the Center of Excellence in Information Technology in Vanuatu. This institution, supported by India, aims to enhance digital skills among youth and build local capacity.

He noted that this center is a strong pillar of India-Vanuatu friendship and a testament to the growing bilateral relationship.

Margerita arrived in Port Vila for his first official visit, aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two nations.

He posted on X, “I am very happy to arrive in Port Vila on my first official visit to Vanuatu. I look forward to engaging positively to deepen our longstanding friendship and partnership.”

Margerita is on an official tour of Vanuatu and Tuvalu from April 22 to 25, during which he will hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers and other officials of both countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit demonstrates India’s commitment to strengthening political and developmental cooperation with Pacific Island countries. It is also a follow-up to the historic third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) held in Port Moresby in May 2023.
