New York, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : India and the European Union (EU) held discussions on September 25, 2026, to enhance cooperation in the tourism, hospitality, and transport sectors. This meeting took place in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The talks were led by C.B. George, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism. The Ministry of External Affairs shared updates on social media, highlighting the focus on strengthening collaboration as part of the broader India-EU partnership.
Earlier in the day, C.B. George welcomed the adoption of a UN declaration addressing rising sea levels. He emphasized India’s initiatives regarding coastal resilience, mangrove conservation, and disaster-resistant infrastructure. His remarks came during a high-level plenary meeting at the UNGA, where he addressed existential threats posed by rising sea levels.
The senior diplomat also underscored the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), stable marine areas, and the continuity of state status for island and coastal nations.
Additionally, George participated in a ministerial meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission on the topic “National Ownership in Practice: Strengthening Inclusive State Institutions through International Peacebuilding Support,” where he reaffirmed the centrality of ownership in peacebuilding efforts.
