New Delhi, August 6: The highly anticipated two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is set to commence on August 13. The Indian team arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday to prepare for the matches. Historically, India has a strong record in Test cricket against the host nation.
To date, India and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 46 Test matches. India has emerged victorious in 22 of these encounters, while Sri Lanka has won 7, with 17 matches ending in a draw. Notably, India has not lost any of the last 10 Test matches against Sri Lanka. The last defeat occurred in 2015, meaning India has remained unbeaten against Sri Lanka for the past 11 years.
However, the Indian team has faced a setback before the series begins. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out due to an injury. In his place, young bowler Aaqib Nabi from Jammu and Kashmir has been included in the squad. Aaqib has garnered attention with his consistent performances in domestic cricket and is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the Indian Test team.
There are also concerns regarding Sai Sudharsan’s fitness. According to a report from Cricbuzz, he is expected to be fit for the first Test and could join the team by August 8.
The first Test match will take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on August 13, followed by the second Test at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club, starting on August 23. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the Indian team aims to uphold its impressive record against Sri Lanka.
The squad for the Sri Lanka Test series includes: Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, and Aaqib Nabi.
