New Delhi : An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which was stuffed in a bag, was found in East Delhi’s Ghazipur Flower Market on Friday morning.

It was later defused by the National Security Guard (NSG).

A case has been registered and investigation is being carried out by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, a senior police official said here.

The IED was defused and samples were collected from the site for further analysis in the lab.

The area police said they received information in the morning about a suspicious bag lying inside the market. After searching the bag, they found suspected material in the bag and called the Bomb Disposal Squad, Special Cell and NSG at the spot, which defused the bomb.

In the meantime, Delhi Fire Service was also informed about the IED in Ghazipur market, and a fire tender was rushed to the spot.

A controlled blast was carried out by the investigative agency to defuse the IED after cordoning off the market area, said the police.

The CCTV footage is being scanned to find out the person who brought the bag inside the market, it added.

A Delhi Fire Service official said the department received a call at about 10:19 am regarding bomb in Ghazipur Flower market. Then, a fire tender was rushed to the spot.
