Mumbai, March 9: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the Team of the Tournament for the T20 World Cup 2026. Four Indian players have made the cut, including Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah. However, Surya Kumar Yadav faced a double blow as he was neither named captain nor included in the eleven.
Aiden Markram has been appointed as the captain of the Team of the Tournament. Under his leadership, South Africa won seven consecutive matches to reach the semifinals, where they suffered a nine-wicket defeat to New Zealand.
In contrast, Surya Kumar led India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2026, making history. India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After posting a massive score of 255/5, India restricted the Kiwi team to just 159 runs. This victory made India the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups and the only team to win the tournament three times. MS Dhoni was India’s first T20 World Cup-winning captain in 2007, followed by Rohit Sharma, who led the team to its second title in 2024.
In the Team of the Tournament, Sanju Samson and Sahibzada Farhan are included as openers. Samson scored 321 runs at a strike rate of 199.37 over five matches and earned the Player of the Tournament award. He achieved three consecutive fifties, scoring 89 runs in both the semifinal and final. Farhan, the Pakistani opener, was the highest run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 383 runs at a strike rate of 160.25, including two centuries. Ishan Kishan contributed 317 runs at a strike rate of 193.29 across nine matches, with three fifties.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya also made significant contributions, scoring 217 runs and taking nine wickets in nine matches. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was the joint highest wicket-taker of the tournament, claiming 14 wickets in eight matches. He was named Player of the Match in the final, taking four wickets for just 15 runs in four overs.
The Team of the Tournament features two players each from South Africa and England, along with one player each from Pakistan, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.
