Murshidabad, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Murshidabad’s MLA, Humayun Kabir, has voiced strong criticism of the police following a 12-hour detention during the recent by-election. He accused law enforcement of abusing their power, claiming they are falsely implicating citizens in cases and engaging in theft.
Kabir announced that he would refrain from attending assembly sessions and committee meetings as a form of protest. He expressed his apologies to the people of Rezinagar for his inability to oppose the police’s actions.
Describing his experience, Kabir recounted, “The officer took me at 8 PM, confiscated my phone, and detained me in a separate house. I cooperated, but they did not communicate with me.” He further stated that upon his release, the police warned him to be careful with his words. “No officer can dictate what I should or shouldn’t say,” he asserted.
He condemned the police for their treatment of civilians, alleging they have been terrorizing residents and violating their dignity. Kabir emphasized that he would not remain silent about these injustices.
Despite speculation about his departure from politics, he clarified, “I have not left politics yet, but I haven’t made any decisions.” He urged the Chief Minister and state ministers to recognize the police’s oppressive behavior, which has intensified over the past two months, particularly during election time.
Kabir noted that he felt powerless to resist the police’s coercive tactics and described his detention experience as a violation of his rights. He announced his intention to stay away from the assembly until the situation improves, stating, “I will remain a member, but I will not attend any sessions or programs until I feel it is appropriate.”
