HP: Court sentences rape accused to 18 yrs RI

Shimla, Mar 20 : Additional Sessions Judge and POCSO Court Solan sentenced a youth of Nalagarh to 18 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act for raping a six-year-old girl, it was reported on Sunday. The court pronounced the sentence on Saturday. Additional Sessions Judge Parvinder Singh Arora also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused and also ordered him to pay the compensation to the child. The court, taking into account the facts and circumstances, recommended to release compensation of Rs 9 lakh for relief and rehabilitation of the victim. Court held that 80 per cent of the compensation amount will be deposited in the name of the victim as FDR and 20 per cent can be disbursed immediately in favor of the victim for her immediate rehabilitation. According to the prosecution, the victim was 6 years old at the time of the incident in the year 2016. The girl was playing outside her house with her brother when the accused cleverly sent the victim’s brother to get the mobile from his mother and after he left, raped the victim. The victim’s brother gave a statement in the court that when he knocked on the door of the accused’s room, he opened the door and his sister came out crying. On the complaint of her father, the Nalagarh Police registered a case against the accused under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, the judgement mentioned. ML ACL1021
