Before menstruation, specific hormones undergo rapid changes in the body. A key player in this process is a chemical called prostaglandins. This substance helps the uterus contract to shed its lining during menstruation. When prostaglandin levels rise excessively, the effects extend beyond the uterus, impacting the intestines as well. Consequently, many women may experience abdominal cramps alongside digestive issues.

Additionally, fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels contribute to these symptoms. Such hormonal shifts can lead to water retention, resulting in bloating, heaviness, and discomfort. However, it is often observed that these issues gradually diminish once menstruation begins.

It is crucial not to dismiss these symptoms lightly. If the pain is severe, persists for an extended period, or interferes with daily activities, it may indicate a more serious condition.

Applying a hot water bottle to the lower abdomen can relieve pain and cramps. A diet rich in fiber, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, enhances digestion. Additionally, ensuring adequate sleep is vital. When the body receives proper rest, hormone levels stabilize, potentially reducing the intensity of pain.
