HMD Luma 4G Unveiled: A Budget-Friendly Phone with Impressive Features

Mumbai, February 28: The HMD Luma 4G has officially launched, featuring the Unisoc T615 processor, built on a 12nm architecture. This device is not intended for heavy gaming or demanding tasks, as HMD markets it for everyday activities such as messaging, social media, streaming, navigation, and light multitasking.

The phone comes with 4GB of RAM and offers storage options of either 128GB or 256GB. Its 6.67-inch HD+ LCD display (720 x 1604) may not seem impressive at first glance, but it boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, a significant upgrade from the 90Hz seen in previous budget models. This enhancement ensures smooth scrolling and navigation. The peak brightness is rated at approximately 500 nits, providing decent visibility outdoors under various conditions.

In terms of camera capabilities, the Luma features a 50MP main sensor on the rear and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. While the megapixel count is noteworthy, real-world performance will largely depend on image processing. Nevertheless, the 50MP sensor allows for good detail capture in well-lit environments.

The device is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is standard for 2026. However, when paired with the modest chipset and HD+ display, it promises reliable battery life. Charging is limited to 18W via USB-C 2.0, which may not be fast by 2026 standards but is acceptable for a budget-friendly device.

Notably, the Luma retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, a small yet significant feature that spares users from the cost of purchasing Bluetooth earphones, especially at this price point. The phone also includes stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual-SIM 4G connectivity. While these features may not be flashy, they align well with the phone’s straightforward design philosophy.

The Luma is available in Titanium and Blue finishes, weighing approximately 198 grams and measuring 8.65mm in thickness. It ships with Android 15 pre-installed, although details regarding long-term software support are yet to be disclosed.

Currently, the device has appeared on HMD’s regional websites in Nigeria and Ghana with a “coming soon” label. Pricing information has not been released, but the specifications suggest it is targeted at the entry-to-mid budget segment.
