Shimla, May 9: The Himachal Pradesh Police has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers. Utilizing the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1988, the police have taken significant action against illegal drug trade.
On Friday, in a major operation conducted across the state, the police successfully obtained and executed preventive detention orders against 19 habitual traffickers involved in the illegal trade of substances, particularly ‘chitta’ and heroin.
An official statement indicated that those detained are repeat offenders linked to organized crime. They have been continuously engaged in illegal trafficking activities, posing a serious threat to society, especially the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
These actions are part of a focused preventive policing strategy adopted by the Himachal Pradesh Police. This strategy involves continuous surveillance, intelligence gathering, investigation of back-end contacts, and meticulous documentation, which are systematically transformed into strong detention proposals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The aim is not only to arrest criminals but also to neutralize major traffickers and dismantle the extensive networks supplying drugs within the state.
The Himachal Pradesh Police has reiterated its strict ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug trafficking and related criminal activities. For individuals previously charged but who continue to engage in drug-related offenses, stringent preventive detention measures will remain in effect.
The Chief Minister has consistently encouraged active public participation in this campaign. Citizens are urged to share information related to drug trafficking and sales through the Emergency Response Support System (Dial 112). All such information will be kept completely confidential.
