Dehradun, August 2 (H.S.) — The spell of heavy rainfall continues across Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall today in parts of Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts. Along with the rain warning, a flood alert has also been issued for the next 24 hours.
In view of the weather, warnings of heavy rainfall have also been issued for certain areas of Almora, Chamoli, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Uttarkashi districts. The Dehradun Meteorological Department has urged residents of all districts to remain alert. Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman has directed district officials to stay vigilant and be fully prepared to handle any situation.
Kedarnath Trek Route Restored
The pedestrian route between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, which had been blocked, is now functional again. The main road has become partly walkable, and groups of pilgrims are now being sent from Sonprayag to Kedarnath via Gaurikund.
Due to disruption of the road between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, the Kedarnath Yatra had been temporarily halted in recent days. Only returning pilgrims were being brought back with the help of security forces through an alternative pedestrian path. Rudraprayag SP Akshay Pralhad Konde stated that until vehicle movement resumes on the damaged route, devotees will have to undertake an approximately 22 km trek to reach Kedarnath Dham. He added that in case of rainfall, pedestrian movement in the area will be temporarily halted for the safety of the pilgrims. He has appealed to all travellers to plan their journey according to the weather forecast.
