Bhubaneswar, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : A low-pressure area has formed in the Bay of Bengal, leading to warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha over the next two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for various districts on Thursday.
According to the IMD bulletin from Bhubaneswar, the low-pressure system developed over the northern Bay of Bengal, creating a cyclonic circulation extending up to approximately 9.4 kilometers above sea level, tilted southwestward with altitude.
A red alert has been issued for Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts, where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in some areas. Additionally, an orange alert has been declared for Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in select locations.
Heavy rainfall is also forecasted for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several other districts until Sunday, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
The weather department has cautioned that the sea conditions along the Odisha coast and adjacent marine areas are expected to be very rough over the next 48 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
