Kolkata, August 3 (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several districts of West Bengal over the coming days. The weather pattern has changed significantly due to an active cyclonic circulation over Bihar and North Bengal and the influence of the monsoon trough line.
According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, very heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar in North Bengal within the next 48 hours. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar districts. An alert has also been issued for heavy rain in North Dinajpur. Due to intense rainfall in the hilly areas, there is a possibility of landslides, which may disrupt daily life.
In South Bengal, districts including Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman, and North and South 24 Parganas may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder. The intensity of rainfall is expected to decrease between Sunday and Tuesday. However, a rise in temperature and humidity may cause discomfort to residents.
Kolkata is likely to remain partly cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall and wind speeds reaching 30–40 km/h.
