Guwahati’s Nuruddin Ahmed has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India on the eve of Republic Day. Recognised for his years of dedication, hard work, and continuous contribution in his field, Ahmed’s achievement has brought pride and joy to Assam.

Expressing his gratitude in an interview with a news agency, Nuruddin Ahmed said he was extremely happy to receive this national recognition. He thanked the Assam Government for their support throughout his journey and acknowledged the significant role played by his family and team in his success. Sharing his life philosophy, he stated, “I do not believe in religion; for me, work is my religion.”

Ahmed also highlighted the diversity and unity within his family. He mentioned that his wife, Junu Rajkhowa, is a Hindu. His elder son is married to a Manipuri girl, the younger son to a Tamil girl, and his daughter is married to a young man from the Ahom community. Junu Rajkhowa expressed her happiness and said she feels fortunate that her husband’s years of hard work have finally been recognised at the national level. She added, “If you try with true dedication, you will surely find diamonds,” praising his struggle and continuous efforts.

Their daughter, JN Tulika, also shared her pride in this achievement. She said, “As his daughter, I am very happy. I thank God and the people of Assam because this honour means a lot to us.” She expressed gratitude to the Government of India and said her father has always followed the principle that ‘work is religion’. Tulika further stated that doing any task with full dedication benefits not only the individual but society at large, making her father truly deserving of this recognition.
