Muzaffarnagar, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : A police operation in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, late Monday night resulted in a confrontation with a wanted criminal, leaving him injured. The encounter occurred in the New Mandi police station area, where authorities apprehended the suspect, identified as Shadab alias Kaleem, who was carrying a bounty of ₹25,000.
During the incident, police recovered a firearm, ammunition, and a motorcycle without a license plate from the suspect. Shadab is also known to have a history of criminal activity, being listed as a history-sheeter in the Khatouli police station records.
The police were conducting routine patrols and vehicle checks in the Bagowali police chowki area when they received a tip-off about the arrival of a fugitive from New Mandi. The informant warned that the suspect was armed. Acting on this information, the police positioned themselves near the Sisouna culvert to intercept the suspect.
Shortly after, a man on a motorcycle approached from the direction of Sisouna. Upon noticing the police, he attempted to evade capture by diverting onto an unpaved road. The rough terrain caused him to lose control, leading to a crash. As he abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee into nearby woods, he opened fire on the police.
In response, the police returned fire, injuring him in the leg. He was subsequently apprehended and transported to a district hospital for treatment, where he remains under medical care.
Authorities reported that Shadab has multiple criminal cases against him, including recent allegations of sheep theft alongside accomplices. The police are now further investigating his criminal background and involvement in other offenses.
