Gandhinagar, April 29: A significant decision has been made to enhance the safety, convenience, and overall experience of tourists visiting Gujarat’s major attractions. Tourist-friendly police stations will be established in Gir Somnath, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Dang. Additionally, a ‘Tourist Police App’ will be introduced, along with help desks and kiosks for better assistance.
This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Gujarat’s Director General of Police, K.L.N. Rao. The meeting included the Inspector General of Police (Administration) and the Superintendents of Police from Gir Somnath, Dwarka, and Dang districts. The primary aim is to operationalize dedicated ‘Tourist Police Stations’ in key tourism districts, following recommendations from the DG and IG conference.
Officials stated that under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, the first phase will focus on ensuring a tourist-friendly environment in major districts like Gir Somnath, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Dang. Existing police posts in these areas will be upgraded into modern tourist police stations, utilizing available resources effectively.
To help tourists easily identify and seek assistance from police, discussions were held about creating special uniforms for police personnel and designing a logo for police vehicles.
Help desks and kiosks will also be set up at major tourist sites to provide quick assistance. All Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to develop a central ‘Interactive Tourist Police Application’ to offer essential information and security services on a single platform.
Moreover, the meeting emphasized ensuring adequate manpower, purchasing new vehicles, and establishing necessary infrastructure at each tourist police station. K.L.N. Rao stated that this initiative aims not only to maintain law and order but also to provide a safe and friendly environment for tourists visiting Gujarat from both domestic and international locations.
The state police department expressed its intention to enhance the safety of Gujarat’s tourism sector on a global scale in the near future.
