Ahmedabad, May 15: Preparations for the 2027 Census in Gujarat have intensified. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has appointed 12,000 enumerators and 2,000 supervisors for the upcoming housing listing and census exercise.
According to the AMC’s Census Department, the first phase of Census 2027 will take place from June 1 to June 30. This phase will involve compiling a list of households and conducting the housing census.
Officials reported that training for approximately 7,500 personnel has already been completed, with the remaining training set to conclude by May 21. Training sessions are being held in schools and community halls across all 48 wards of Ahmedabad. All appointed staff members have been allocated to wards under the supervision of municipal officials.
The AMC stated that enumerators have been sourced from central and state government departments, semi-government offices, and educational institutions. Appointments have been finalized according to official orders issued by the relevant departments.
The central government will also allow citizens to participate through a self-enumeration facility. This online portal will be open for Gujarat residents from May 17 to May 31, enabling families to submit details related to housing and amenities before the door-to-door census begins.
Officials indicated that Census 2027 will utilize digital tools, including a mobile application for enumerators and an online self-enumeration system for citizens. During the household listing phase, information regarding housing conditions, domestic facilities, and properties will be collected.
The AMC has warned that employees who are absent from training or fail to comply with census duties may face disciplinary action under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948.
Officials have urged citizens to fully cooperate with enumerators during this process and to provide accurate and complete information in both the self-enumeration and door-to-door data collection phases.
