
Surat, May 2: Surat became the focal point for the 66th ‘Gujarat Gaurav Divas’ celebration on May 1. Under the leadership of Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the event featured a grand police parade, cultural performances, and public participation.
The festivities commenced with Governor Acharya Devvrat taking the salute at Y Junction, followed by the formal flag-off of the grand parade heading towards Lalbhai Contractor Stadium.
The event was attended by Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, along with state cabinet members, parliamentarians, assembly leaders, and senior administrative and police officials.
Led by IPS officer Dr. Naveen Chakravarty, over 750 personnel from 18 platoons of the Gujarat Police participated in the parade. The procession included formal drill formations and thematic floats showcasing the journey of Gujarat’s development.
Motorcycle stunts by the police captivated the audience along the route. At the ceremony’s beginning, the Governor took the salute, and the parade commenced.
The Chief Minister and other dignitaries sang “Vande Mataram,” while the crowd repeatedly chanted “Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Cultural performances were a significant part of the event, featuring Garba and tribal dance presentations that highlighted the state’s traditional art forms.
As part of the evening program organized by the district administration, singer Bhavin Shastri and his band performed patriotic songs, including “Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat.”
Large crowds gathered at various points along the parade route to witness the event.
Attendees included Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, Energy Minister Rishikesh Patel, Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani, Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia, Health Minister Praful Pansharia, Assembly Deputy Speaker Purnesh Modi, MP Mukesh Dalal, and MLAs Arvind Rana, Mohan Dodiya, Sandeep Desai, Mukesh Patel, and Sangeeta Patil.
