Gujarat Cyber Crime Unit Arrests Man Linked to ₹7 Crore Fraud Cases

Surat, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Cyber Crime Cell in Surat, Gujarat, has apprehended a 28-year-old man, Ashwin Gohil, for his alleged involvement in two online investment fraud cases. He is accused of providing bank accounts used for transactions totaling ₹2.72 crore. Authorities have received 37 complaints related to these cases from various states.

According to police reports, Gohil was arrested following a technical investigation into two cases registered at the Surat Cyber Crime Police Station. The fraudsters initially contacted the victim’s son via a WhatsApp group, enticing him with promises of returns as high as 390% on investments in the stock market and the “BRP Fund 100-Day Wealth Leap Program.”

In the first case, Gohil allegedly utilized a WhatsApp group named “BRP Fund 104-Day Wealth Leap Program” to redirect the victim to a fake website. The site displayed false profits, leading the victim to transfer ₹5.99 lakh into different bank accounts.

For the second case, the scammers reportedly used another WhatsApp group, “BRP Fund-Grow Together-008,” to gain the victim’s trust before directing him to yet another fraudulent website. In this instance, the victim transferred ₹19.60 lakh across multiple bank accounts.

The police revealed that Gohil obtained an ICICI Bank current account from another arrested suspect, Satyajit Manjaria, in exchange for a commission. Gohil then sold this account to Pankajkumar Ramani for ₹3,000, while Ramani passed it on to another accused, Vivek Beldia, for ₹5,000. Beldia allegedly sold the account to an absconding suspect for ₹26,000. In total, transactions amounting to ₹2,72,97,899.50 occurred through the ICICI Bank account.

Upon examining the account through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), police discovered 37 complaints involving alleged fraud totaling ₹7,01,47,845.

The police have already identified three other suspects: Satyajit Manjaria (28) from Ahmedabad, Pankajkumar Ramani (39) from Surat, and Vivek Beldia (30) from Surat. Authorities urged the public not to share their bank accounts for commission purposes, warning that such accounts could be exploited for cyber fraud, potentially leading to legal repercussions for account holders.
