Gandhinagar, August 11: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has issued important directives to elected representatives and officials of municipal corporations and municipalities. He emphasized the need to focus not only on planning new projects but also on assessing the status of completed development works, ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively.
During an event in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, checks worth ₹3,850 crores were distributed for urban local body development projects. CM Patel highlighted that along with the availability of funds, proper utilization and high-quality work are essential.
He stated, “While planning new projects, attention must also be given to the condition of old and completed works.” He urged elected representatives and officials to conduct site visits to ensure that projects meet established standards.
Patel noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, improved financial management has eliminated funding shortages for public welfare projects in cities and municipalities. The rising expectations of citizens reflect the need for enhanced quality of life and the visible impact of public works.
The Chief Minister also instructed urban local bodies to ensure that newly constructed roads in cities and municipal areas utilize Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). He suggested a stronger focus on urban cleanliness and strict action in cases of negligence.
He emphasized the necessity of increasing greenery in urban areas. Patel announced that the state government has decided to reserve approximately one percent of land in newly developed town planning schemes for planting trees. This provision should be used to create gardens, parks, and oxygen parks for public benefit.
Urban Development and Finance Minister Kanu Desai remarked that under CM Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, development works in cities have not stalled due to a lack of funds. However, special attention is needed to ensure these projects are of high quality. Climate change considerations should also be integrated into urban development plans.
He urged local bodies to work towards making cities greener and enhancing cleanliness efforts under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ initiative.
The state’s urban local bodies received ₹3,850 crores under the Golden Jubilee Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme. Of this, ₹2,992 crores were allocated to 17 municipal corporations, while ₹858 crores were designated for 152 municipalities.
