Allegations of Mismanagement by Previous Delhi Government Raised by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, August 11: During the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the house on Tuesday. She leveled serious accusations against the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, claiming it failed to utilize funds for public welfare and misused taxpayers’ money. Gupta cited the 2024-25 budget, asserting that the government did not spend nearly ₹20,000 crores.

Gupta emphasized that it is significant that the previous government had funds but did not allocate them effectively. She criticized their spending practices, suggesting that the money was misappropriated. In the 2024-25 budget, which totaled ₹80,798 crores, only ₹61,000 crores were utilized, leaving no funds for public benefit. She accused the government of focusing on how to commit fraud rather than serving the public interest.

The Chief Minister stated that the previous administration had no genuine interest in cleaning the Yamuna River or in developing new schools, roads, or public welfare programs.

Referencing GST, Gupta mentioned that in 2025-26, ₹1,313 crores were refunded, and in the current fiscal year, they have already refunded ₹550 crores in just half a year. She emphasized their commitment to ensuring that public funds reach the people promptly.

Gupta criticized the former government for not spending a single rupee on the welfare of poor laborers. She sarcastically noted that while the previous administration claimed to have done excellent work, a review of the last CAG report revealed no financial support for laborers or their welfare schemes.

She highlighted that the Supreme Constitutional Audit Institution has prepared a report exposing the irregularities of the previous government. This audit details how the former AAP government allegedly misused public funds and mismanaged Delhi’s finances.

Gupta called for an investigation into the discrepancies that occurred under the previous administration. She pointed out that there were numerous flaws in the systems during their tenure. Her government has presented a report that the PAC is currently investigating, noting that there were no PAC meetings during the previous administration, and the CAG was not included, indicating a lack of transparency.
