According to ATS officials, Shama Parveen was part of the online terror module of AQIS (Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent). Originally from Jharkhand, she is the fifth arrest in connection with this module. Earlier, four others associated with the same network were apprehended.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi called the arrest a significant success. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that the woman had links to Pakistan and was actively working through online terror modules.

Key Conspirator in Radicalisation Efforts

According to Gujarat ATS, Shama Parveen played a central role in the module’s operations. She was involved in radicalising individuals and preparing them for terrorist activities.

Unmarried and unemployed, she was using social media platforms to expand Al-Qaeda’s online network. ATS officials revealed that she operated two Facebook pages and an Instagram account to spread jihadist content. Her Instagram account reportedly had over 14,000 followers.

The ATS had earlier arrested four Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists on 22 July. During their interrogation, Shama Parveen’s name surfaced, placing her on the agency’s radar. Following surveillance, she was arrested from Bengaluru.

In Contact with Pakistani Accounts via WhatsApp

DIG Sunil Joshi of Gujarat ATS stated that preliminary investigations revealed Shama was promoting jihadi ideology and videos related to “Ghazwa-e-Hind” on social media. She had been living with her family in Bengaluru for a few years but rarely left her room. She was reportedly in contact with several Pakistani accounts via WhatsApp.

Authorities are now probing whether she received any kind of funding or was working with others. She has been brought to Ahmedabad, where a remand will be sought for further investigation.

Social Media Platforms Used for Propaganda

As per Gujarat ATS, Shama Parveen was residing in R.T. Nagar, Bengaluru. She managed the Instagram handle strangers_nation02 and two Facebook pages — “Strangers of The Nation” and “Strangers of The Nation 2”. These platforms were reportedly used to circulate jihadi speeches of Al-Qaeda leader Maulana Asim Umar.
