Greetings pour in for ‘Women in Blue’

New Delhi, March 6 : India batting great Sachin Tendulkar, Minister of Sports and others poured in praises for Indian women’s cricket team after their 107-run victory over Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the Bay Oval here on Sunday. Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana’s 122-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s four-wicket haul helped India register confident win over Pakistan in their World Cup opener. Moreover, skipper Mithali Raj equalled the record held by India batting great Tendulkar, playing in six different World Cup tournaments. She also became the first women’s cricketer to add this feather to her illustrious career. Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur tweeted: “Superb performance and spectacular start to the World Cup! Congratulations Team, well done.” Sachin Tendulkar: “Brilliant win for #TeamIndia! The partnership between Sneh & Pooja got us back in the game when we were 114/6. The best thing the two did was to rotate strike smartly and convert 2s into 3s & didn’t miss out on putting loose deliveries away.
