Grand Celebration of Baba Mahakal with Devotees at Ujjain Temple

Ujjain, July 19: The grand Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was held at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple on Sunday. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.

Early Sunday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerbhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.

With the opening of the temple gates, amidst the chanting of mantras, Baba Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. Offerings of bhang, sandalwood, and vermilion were made to Baba Mahakal. Following this, he was adorned with a silver crown of Sheshnag, a silver necklace, a silver rudraksha garland, and fragrant flower garlands.

The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, and many devotees were present to witness Baba Mahakal’s Bhasma Aarti. A significant number of devotees had queued overnight to seek darshan of their beloved deity.

Previously, the ashes from cremation grounds were offered to Mahakal, but now, specially prepared ashes from the dung of Kapila cows and medicinal herbs are used. During the Bhasma Aarti, men are required to wear traditional dhoti-sola, while women must wear sarees.

The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned across the country and abroad, attracting both the general public and prominent personalities. To maintain order around the temple during this event, a substantial number of police personnel are deployed.

On Sunday, State Information Commissioner Bhimashankar Pachauri visited Baba Mahakal with his family. He noted that the arrangements in place suggest that preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela in 2028 are already underway. He expressed confidence that visitors from around the world would feel blessed by Baba Mahakal’s grace.

He also mentioned the successful launch of the ‘Vikram’ rocket into space, highlighting that the grandeur displayed by Emperor Vikramaditya in his time will be witnessed by the world today. This is indeed a moment of great joy for all of us.
