Ujjain, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain witnessed a spectacular Bharm Aarti on September 7, coinciding with Aja Ekadashi, a significant day in the Hindu calendar. Early Monday morning, devotees flocked to the temple to witness this divine ritual, which was marked by vibrant celebrations.
As dawn broke, the temple doors opened with the sound of drums and traditional music, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as devotees chanted “Jai Shri Mahakal,” filling the temple complex with spiritual fervor. The air resonated with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.
The rituals began with an elaborate water offering, or Jalabhishek, to Lord Mahakal, using a mixture known as Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Following this, the first bell was rung, and offerings of water were made. The ceremony continued with the lighting of camphor, after which Lord Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown and a garland made from sacred threads.
The temple priests led the Mahaarati, and many devotees were present to witness the Bharm Aarti. Devotees had queued since the previous night, eager to pay their respects to their beloved deity. During this auspicious occasion, men traditionally wear dhoti-sola, while women don sarees.
According to tradition, the Bharm Aarti is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after this ritual, Lord Mahakal reveals himself in a tangible form to his devotees. Each year, this event attracts a large number of pilgrims to the holy city of Ujjain, enhancing the spiritual significance of the day.
