Mountain View, February 11: Google has officially announced that it is developing Android 17, following the recent release of Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 for Google Pixel devices. This latest update marks the final version based on the current operating system.
Android 17 Beta 1 Launching Soon
According to Google, the first public beta of Android 17 will be available shortly. Unlike previous versions, this will not be labeled as a Developer Preview. Historically, the initial builds of new Android operating systems have been designated as Developer Previews, as seen with Android 16, which had two such releases. This year, however, Google is changing the approach with Android 17.
Android 17 Beta 1 will build upon the Android 16 QPR platform and will feature the latest bug fixes, along with enhancements to stability and performance. Leaks from previous months indicate that users can expect several new features and improved gaming capabilities in the upcoming release. More details will be revealed once the beta version goes live, which is anticipated to occur later this month or next month. The stable version of Android 17 is expected to be released around June 2026.
As is customary, Google Pixel users will be the first to experience the new beta. Those currently using Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 and who remain enrolled in the Android Beta Program will automatically receive the Android 17 Beta 1 update. Users who prefer not to participate in the beta testing must opt out of the program.
