Goa: Pramod Sawant meets Governor, stakes claim to form govt

Panaji, March 21 : Caretaker Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai at Raj Bhavan on Monday and staked claim to form the new government. He submitted letter of support of 25 MLAs to the Governor. All 20 Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs were present on the occasion. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Minister Shripad Naik, BJP national General Secretary and Goa In-charge CT Ravi and NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar were present on the occasion. Earlier, Sawant was elected as Leader of the legislature party in the presence of party’s Central Observers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan. BJP emerged as the single-largest party in the Assembly elections held recently in the state, winning 20 seats. It has received support of three independent MLAs and two MLAs of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP). The tenure of the State Assembly ended on March 16. Sawant was appointed as caretaker Chief Minister of the state. AKM RJ
