Goa: Newly-elected MLAs take oath

Panaji, March 15 : All the newly-elected MLAs in Goa took oath as members of the legislative assembly on Tuesday. The MLAs were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Pro-tem Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar. While 15 MLAs took oath in Konkani, 7 in Marathi and 17 took in English. Acting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was among those who took the oath. He tendered his resignation on March 12, paving way for the formation of the new government. Before the elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced that the elections would be contested under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The term of the outgoing assembly is to expire on March 16, 2022. Though clarity was missing who would be the next chief minister of the state, Dr Sawant said that he and party state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade were going to Delhi to meet the party national president J P Nadda and others. ”We will hold deliberations on the formation of the next government,” he said. Meanwhile, while Vishwajit Rane, seen as a contender for , skipped a question related to the issue, his wife and MLA everyone has ambition but the high command will take a decision. AKM
