Panaji, April 16 : Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao on Saturday extended greetings to the people, particularly the Christian brethren, on the eve of Easter. In his message, the Governor said on this holy day, Jesus Christ, the Apostle of Peace, rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. ”The message of Easter is the message of Life and Hope for all mankind. Jesus Christ taught us to love God and love our fellow human beings. He led by example and for all humanity his teachings are just as relevant now as they were in his lifetime. This festival gives us the valuable message of brotherhood, love, compassion and forgiveness. Let us practice the ideals of the Lord, so as to make the world a better place to live in.” Dr Sawant, in his message, said, “The day of Easter marks the Resurrection of Jesus, three days after his death by crucifixion, signaling the victory of life over death. Easter is the joyful end to the Lenten season of fasting.” ”Jesus Christ preached the eternal values of love, compassion, brotherhood and forgiveness that are relevant to today’s world afflicted by evils. Easter reminds us all to follow our conscience to work for others. It teaches us about charity, compassion, responsibility and forgiveness,” he said. “This Easter, let us intensify our prayer for the world as we continue to celebrate the victory of Christ over evil, hoping that we may be freed from the restraints that keep humanity locked up in darkness. Let us pledge to strive for the welfare of others and let peace and harmony prevail. Let us try to make the world a better place to live in,” the Chief Minister said. Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao said, ”Easter invites us to make this joy infectious by extending our hands to all the people of good will and working together for peace, harmony and mutual respect among men and women of different social, cultural and religious traditions and by overcoming divisive forces that seem to be active even in our own state.” ”May Easter inspire us to live as responsible citizens in our country and state, working towards genuine human development and integral sustainable advancement,” he added.
