New Delhi: Once known for her charming moves and presence on screen, Amrita Arora has now gracefully transitioned from films to the world of business. After stepping away from the film industry post-marriage, she remains a familiar face at glamorous parties and social gatherings. The actress celebrates her birthday this Saturday.
Born on January 31, 1978, in Mumbai, Amrita Arora never quite reached the same stardom as her sister Malaika Arora. Belonging to a Malayali Catholic family, Amrita first gained popularity as a television personality and VJ. At the age of 17, she hosted MTV shows like ‘Housefull’ and ‘Chill Out’ before entering films.
Her debut film was ‘Kitne Door Kitne Paas’ in 2002. She went on to appear in movies such as ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’, ‘Girlfriend’, ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, ‘Golmaal Returns’, and ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, including special appearances in several others.
Despite her steady presence, most of her films performed averagely at the box office. Finding lasting success in films proved challenging, and in 2009, she married Shakeel and gradually distanced herself from the film industry.
The marriage itself attracted controversy since Shakeel was formerly married to a close friend of Amrita. However, she never publicly addressed the issue and today leads a happy life with her husband and two children.
Though away from films, Amrita shares a close friendship with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, keeping her connected to the showbiz world. The trio of Amrita, Kareena, and Malaika often dominate social media with their camaraderie and appearances.
Beyond entertainment, Amrita has ventured into the food business. Together with her husband Shakeel, she runs a luxury restaurant called ‘Jolen By The Sea’ located on Anjuna Beach in Goa. The restaurant rivals five-star establishments, with Amrita personally overseeing everything from the menu to the interior design. She actively promotes the restaurant through social media.
