Four Dead, 12 Injured as Jeep Crashes into Container in Maihar

Maihar, 30 December (Daily Kiran) – A tragic accident occurred on Monday night near the village Tilora on National Highway-30 in Maihar district, Madhya Pradesh. A jeep carrying devotees collided from behind with a container truck. Four people travelling in the jeep died on the spot, while 12 others were injured and admitted to a nearby hospital.

According to reports, around 20 people were travelling in the jeep from NKJ Pakariya, Katni, heading to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to take part in the Magh fair starting on 4 January. They were planning to take a holy dip at the Sangam. The collision happened when the jeep ran into the rear of the container truck near Tilora village on the highway.

Locals and passersby alerted the police, who reached the site immediately. The injured were transported to Maihar Civil Hospital with the help of ambulances. Two people were declared dead at the hospital, while two others died en route or during treatment. Twelve seriously injured people are currently undergoing treatment in Maihar Civil Hospital and District Hospital.

The container driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Initial findings suggest the cause of the accident was high speed and negligence. The jeep driver and one passenger died at the spot, while the identities of two women who died later are yet to be confirmed.

Dehat police station in-charge Renu Mishra confirmed that the driver of the jeep was Jitendra Pyasi, aged 24. The deceased and injured include Jagdish Patel, Ramsahay Patel, Ram Pratap Patel, Mango Bhai Patel, Shyam Sundar Patel, Om Patel, Krishna Patel, Satyaprakash Patel, Satyabhan Patel, Santlal Patel, Satyam Patel, and Ramprata Patel.

Authorities are continuing the search for the container truck driver and are conducting detailed inquiries into the incident.
