Four Candidates File Nominations for Rajya Sabha Elections from Tamil Nadu

Chennai, March 5: Four candidates from major political parties have submitted their nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, which will fill six seats from Tamil Nadu. The current term for these seats ends next month.

Leaders Thiruchi Shiva and J. Constantine Ravindran from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), along with M. Thambidurai from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss filed their nomination papers at the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat in Chennai. The candidates submitted their papers to the designated returning officer.

Thiruchi Shiva filed his nomination in the presence of DMK President and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, senior leader T.R. Baalu, CPI(M) leader P. Shanmugam, and VCK leader S.S. Balaji.

J. Constantine Ravindran, the second DMK candidate, also submitted his nomination with M.K. Stalin present. Other notable attendees included DMK Legislature Party Leader K. Pichandi, CPI leader M. Veerapandian, and MDMK leader Durai Vaiko.

From the opposition, AIADMK candidate M. Thambidurai filed his nomination in the presence of party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and senior leaders Dindigul C. Srinivasan and S.P. Velumani.

PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss submitted his nomination with the backing of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). AIADMK leaders K.P. Munusamy, Natham R. Vishwanathan, and P. Thangamani were also present.

M. Thambidurai has previously served as the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, while Anbumani Ramadoss has held the position of Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the central government.

The DMK had announced Thiruchi Shiva and J. Constantine Ravindran as its candidates on Wednesday. According to the coalition agreement, the DMK allocated one Rajya Sabha seat each to Congress and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

Congress declared AICC Secretary M. Christopher Tilak as its candidate on Thursday morning, while DMDK nominated L.K. Sudhish. Both are expected to file their nominations later in the day.

The Election Commission issued the notification for the Rajya Sabha elections on February 16, as the terms of six current members from Tamil Nadu will end on April 2. The deadline for filing nominations is March 5, with voting scheduled for March 16 if necessary.
