Haridwar, May 20: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, was laid to rest with full military honors on Wednesday in Haridwar. Political leaders, saints, and supporters paid heartfelt tributes to him. He is remembered for his discipline, integrity, and contributions to the development of the state.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, BJP MP Anil Baluni, and several senior leaders attended the funeral in Haridwar.
Chief Minister Dhami expressed that Khanduri’s life was inspirational and will continue to motivate future generations. He stated, “Whether as an officer defending the country’s borders, as the Chief Minister of the state, or as a Union Minister, his qualities of discipline, adherence to rules, and punctuality will always inspire us.”
Former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna remarked that Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri dedicated himself entirely to serving Uttarakhand and its people. He noted, “The respect he is receiving today reflects his life. He served Uttarakhand with utmost dedication as an MP, minister, and Chief Minister. He was like an elder brother to all. We are deeply saddened today.”
BJP MP Anil Baluni recalled Khanduri’s contributions as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government. He said, “When we traveled from Kotdwar to Dehradun, there were many accidents along the way. As soon as Khanduri became the Minister, he addressed all the shortcomings. Uttarakhand will never forget him. He created a network of roads and highways that connected the entire region.”
Spiritual leader Kailashanand Giri Maharaj also paid tribute to Khanduri, describing him as a ‘divine personality’ for Uttarakhand. He stated, “He did a lot for Uttarakhand and made significant contributions. During his time, he inspired many leaders and young politicians to move forward. He was exceptionally talented and always wanted Uttarakhand to be at the forefront of the nation.”
