Varanasi, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Varanasi is grappling with severe flooding, leaving children unable to attend school and damaging vehicles, according to Varun Chaudhary, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and co-in-charge for Uttar Pradesh. During his recent visit to the city, Chaudhary met with Congress councilors and local leaders to address issues of corruption and the city’s deteriorating infrastructure.
Chaudhary stated, “I will be discussing the corruption issues within the municipal corporation with Congress councilors and candidates. The heavy rains have caused water to accumulate up to the knees in various parts of Varanasi, preventing children from going to school and damaging residents’ vehicles. We will urge councilors and the mayor to take action on these matters.”
He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to transform Varanasi into a city akin to Kyoto, noting that despite the BJP holding key positions in the city, including the MP, MLA, and mayor, the situation remains dire. “Under the leadership of PM Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the people of Banaras are suffering from mismanagement,” he added.
Looking ahead to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Chaudhary expressed confidence that the Congress alliance would form the next government. “Prominent BJP leaders are working to defeat Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. I believe that after the BJP government is removed, the condition of Uttar Pradesh will improve,” he said.
In response to a demand by West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya for the Chief Election Commissioner to be awarded the Padma Bhushan, Chaudhary called for the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
