Gorakhpur, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Heavy rainfall in Gorakhpur has resulted in significant flooding, disrupting the lives of many residents. On October 1, Congress state president Ajay Rai visited the Betiahata area, where he met with a local woman whose shop and belongings were ruined by the floodwaters.
During their conversation, the woman explained that she had taken out a loan to start her small business, but the flooding has left her in a dire situation, jeopardizing her livelihood.
After assessing the damage, Rai spoke to reporters, launching a scathing attack on the state government. He stated, “Those who claim to be turning Gorakhpur into ‘Spain’ should witness the waterlogged shop and the ruined goods of this poor woman from Betiahata. The flooding has destroyed her entire inventory. This is not just about one shop; it’s a matter of the millions of rupees lost by ordinary people, shopkeepers, and families throughout Gorakhpur.”
Rai demanded an immediate survey of the damages across Gorakhpur and called for appropriate compensation for affected citizens, shopkeepers, and impoverished families. He also urged for a permanent solution to the flooding issue and suggested action against responsible officials.
He criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and local MP Ravi Kishan, asserting, “Development will not be proven by calling Gorakhpur ‘Spain’ but by ensuring the safety of the lives, property, and livelihoods of its residents.”
Additionally, Rai commended Indian Captain Smita Machhar for her bravery in saving Flight FZ1073 of Flydubai, expressing gratitude for her life-saving actions, which he described as a true service to the community.
