
Chandigarh, April 4: The Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence Wing, in collaboration with Chandigarh Police, has resolved the grenade attack case on the BJP office. Five suspects have been arrested, and authorities recovered a hand grenade and a .30 bore Zigaana pistol along with ammunition. This information was shared by the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Balwinder Lal alias Shami, Jasveer Singh alias Jassi, Charanjit Singh alias Channi, Rubal Chauhan, and Mandeep alias Abhijot Sharma.
DGP Yadav revealed that initial investigations indicated this module was supported by Pakistan’s ISI and operated under the guidance of foreign handlers based in Portugal and Germany.
He further explained that the accused were part of a well-organized network, which included several supporting organizations and sub-modules to execute the attack.
The identities of two main perpetrators involved in the attack have also been established.
Ongoing investigations are being conducted to establish further connections in this case.
Reports indicate that the grenade attack occurred outside the BJP office located in Sector 37 of Chandigarh on Wednesday.
Assistant Inspector General (State Special Operations Cell) Deepak Parekh provided additional insights, stating that the investigation revealed the accused transported a shipment filled with grenades, weapons, and cartridges.
He added that this shipment was distributed through various officials before reaching the final criminals.
Following the instructions of handlers based in Portugal, the accused coordinated the delivery and execution of the attack.
Police teams are actively conducting raids to apprehend the absconding suspects involved in the attack.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed on April 3 under Section 25(1)(B) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code in Mohali.
