Mumbai, May 12: In a shocking turn of events, two young men, Vicky Maurya and Mayank Mishra, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal secretary to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The police have taken both suspects into custody and transported them to West Bengal for questioning. Meanwhile, Vicky Maurya’s family has expressed their confusion regarding his arrest.
Vicky’s father, Gautam Kumar Singh, spoke to reporters, stating, “He is my younger son. I have no idea what happened. The police came to our home looking for him, and I opened the door. They searched the entire house and took our mobile phone, which has not been returned yet. We have not been informed about what he did or what charges have been filed against him.”
He emphasized that Vicky has no prior criminal history. “We had arranged for him to work in Mumbai. He had a dispute there for some reason and mentioned he was moving to another company. We thought he had found a job that suited him. On May 7, Vicky left home saying he was going to work. He left around noon and did not return. Later, we received a call from someone informing us that the police had arrested him and taken him to West Bengal.”
In the investigation of the murder of Suvendu Adhikari’s PA, three individuals have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. One suspect is from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, while the other two are from Bihar. According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case, the Bihar suspects are identified as Mayank Raj Mishra and Vicky Maurya, while the Ballia suspect is named Raj Singh. All three are undergoing intensive questioning, with hopes that this will reveal the full conspiracy behind the murder.
The suspects were apprehended after one of them made an online payment via UPI at a toll plaza, which helped the police trace their mobile numbers and gather essential information.
Chandranath Rath was shot on May 6 and sustained severe injuries. Local residents rushed him to a nearby Diversity Nursing Home, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. The murder has been attributed to alleged TMC workers.
In response to Rath’s murder, the West Bengal police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which includes officers from the Special Task Force (STF) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
