Kolkata, May 11: In a heartfelt plea, the family of Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh has called for justice in the RG Kar rape case. This appeal comes just a day after Ghosh took his oath as a minister in the new state government.
Speaking from her residence in Kharagpur, Ghosh’s sister, Subhashini Paria, expressed her hopes for her brother to prioritize the welfare of the state, particularly the Jungle Mahal region. “I urge the new government of West Bengal to ensure that ‘Abhaya’ receives justice,” she stated.
The case revolves around the tragic murder of an intern doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024, a case that has garnered significant attention in West Bengal, where the victim is often referred to as ‘Abhaya.’
Dilip Ghosh’s mother, Pushpalata Ghosh, expressed her pride in her son’s inclusion in the state’s first BJP cabinet. “He is a hardworking individual. I am confident he will fulfill his promises to the public. I urge him to work towards ensuring justice for Abhaya and her family,” she said.
Pushpalata Ghosh also called on the newly elected government to uphold its commitment to providing safety and security for women in the state, emphasizing, “Women in the state need protection.”
On Sunday, Dilip Ghosh was warmly welcomed at his Kharagpur residence with flower garlands.
It is noteworthy that Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday, alongside five ministers, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Nisith Pramanik, and Khudiram Tudu.
On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari is set to hold his first meeting with top state administration officials. In addition to an administrative review, two more meetings are scheduled, including one with district magistrates.
