Fake Doctor Arrested in Sonarpur, West Bengal Amid Police Investigation

Sonarpur, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : A fake doctor was apprehended in Sonarpur, located in West Bengal‘s South 24 Parganas district, following a police raid on his practice. The arrest took place on Monday night, as confirmed by a senior police officer on Tuesday.

The suspect, Vishwarup Acharya, was found to be using forged MBBS and FRCS degrees. He falsely claimed to be an oncologist and charged patients 800 rupees for each visit. Reports indicate that Acharya was practicing at eight different locations and had recently opened a new clinic in a residential area of Sonarpur.

Suspicion arose when the homeowner noticed irregularities in Acharya’s activities and alerted the police. Subsequently, authorities sent an undercover officer posing as a patient to his clinic, leading to the raid. Initial investigations revealed multiple discrepancies in Acharya’s identity and qualifications, resulting in his immediate arrest.

Police believe that Acharya had been operating as a doctor for an extended period. He was presented in the Baruipur sub-divisional court on Tuesday. Investigators are now delving into how he managed to treat patients for so long and the origins of the counterfeit documents he used.

A senior police official stated, “An officer visited Vishwarup’s clinic as a patient. It became clear after just a couple of interactions that he was a fake doctor. All his degrees were fraudulent. An investigation has commenced to determine where he obtained these fake degrees and whether a larger criminal network is involved.”
