Mumbai, April 8: A fake bomb threat call in Mumbai on Tuesday morning caused a brief panic among security agencies. However, it was soon revealed that the call was made by a 46-year-old laborer working at APMC, and it turned out to be a hoax.
Around 11:54 AM, the caller contacted the Beat Marshal System, claiming, “I am a terrorist. A bomb blast is going to happen in Mumbai.” This vague yet serious threat triggered an immediate alert within the police system. Within a few hours, the police identified the caller as Tufaan Noorlaal Sheikh, a laborer residing in the APMC market area of Sector 19.
Authorities stated that the suspect did not provide any concrete information and had no real plan, indicating that it was merely an attempt to spread fear. Constable Rajendra Prakash Tayade from the APMC police station has filed a complaint regarding the incident. The suspect has been charged with making a false terrorist threat and misleading law enforcement.
The police emphasized that such vague threats cannot be ignored, leading to the activation of multiple units and the deployment of resources.
Officials warned that fake calls like this can have serious legal consequences and may affect the police’s response capability during actual emergencies.
Senior police officer Ajay Shinde from APMC stated that they arrested the suspect immediately for questioning. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the incident. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
