Explosion in Jalandhar: Scooty Catches Fire Near BSF Chowk, Investigation Underway

Jalandhar, May 6: An explosion occurred on Tuesday evening near BSF Chowk in Jalandhar, Punjab, involving an Activa scooty. Following the blast, the scooty caught fire, causing panic at the scene.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries. The two individuals riding the scooty are currently in police custody and are cooperating with the investigation.

Upon receiving the incident report, police and fire department teams swiftly arrived at the location to control the situation. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated, “Our patrolling team was present at the site around 8 PM when a fire suddenly broke out in a parked Activa near the gate. The young man associated with this scooty is with us and is assisting in the inquiry.”

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also responded to the incident. He expressed concern on the social media platform X, stating that such an explosion near the BSF headquarters raises serious questions about law and order.

He emphasized that Punjab is a sensitive border state, and incidents like this heighten concerns regarding national security. Warring accused both the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state and the central government of neglecting security issues. He asserted that people need safety, not political theatrics.

Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, also commented on X, describing the explosion in Jalandhar as alarming. He noted that such incidents indicate severe lapses in security and vigilance. The government should take proactive and concrete measures to ensure public safety and restore public confidence, rather than merely reacting after incidents occur.

Additionally, Punjab BJP General Secretary Parminder Singh Barad remarked on X that the explosion near the BSF headquarters serves as a grim reminder of the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. The blast involving a delivery scooty in a crowded area highlights how dangerously unsafe public spaces have become. He called for accountability from the Aam Aadmi Party government, stating that governance cannot be changed through showmanship and drama. Punjab cannot afford this failure; people need security, not excuses.
