Johannesburg, March 7: South African all-rounder Ethan Bosch has been ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand due to injury. Vian Mulder has been named as his replacement in the 15-member squad. The T20 series is set to begin on March 15, with the final match scheduled for March 25.
Ethan Bosch, who plays domestic cricket for the Dolphins, has only participated in one ODI for South Africa thus far. There were expectations that the 26-year-old might make his T20 debut against New Zealand, but his injury has sidelined him for the entire series. In contrast, Mulder brings international experience, having played 11 T20 matches for South Africa. His last appearance in this format was against Ireland in September 2024, marking his return to the T20 team after a significant hiatus.
The South African players will depart for New Zealand on March 8. Meanwhile, players and support staff participating in the T20 World Cup 2026 will fly directly from India to New Zealand. Due to heightened military tensions in West Asia, airspace has been temporarily closed in some areas, causing South African players to remain in Kolkata. Teams from South Africa, West Indies, and England have also faced delays in returning home. The ICC has arranged special charter flights for these teams, which are expected to return to their countries by the end of this week.
Keshav Maharaj will captain South Africa in the T20 series against New Zealand, starting on March 15 in Mount Maunganui. The second match will take place in Hamilton on March 17, followed by the third match in Auckland on March 20. The fourth match is scheduled for Wellington on March 22, and the final match will be held in Christchurch on March 25.
South Africa’s squad for the T20 series against New Zealand includes:
Keshav Maharaj (captain), Otniel Bartman, Vian Mulder, Gerald Coetzee, Tony de Jorgie, Connor Esterhuizen, Dian Forester, Jordan Harman, Rubin Herman, George Linde, Nakobani Mokoena, Andile Simelane, Lutho Sipamla, Prenelan Subrayen, Jason Smith.
