
Etah, May 21: In a late-night encounter on Wednesday, police in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, clashed with suspected thieves, resulting in one suspect being injured and another arrested. During the confrontation, police seized illegal weapons, stolen goods, and a motorcycle without a number plate.
Around 12:30 AM, officers from the Kotwali Nagar police station were checking suspicious individuals and vehicles near a pond on the road leading to Aliganj from Ashok Vihar Colony. Two young men on a motorcycle without a number plate approached the police. When signaled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the police team. In return fire, one suspect was shot in the left leg and fell to the ground, while the other was apprehended at the scene.
The injured suspect was identified as Keshav, son of Rajendra Singh, a resident of Girdharpur in Aligarh district. The arrested individual was identified as Ramsaran, son of Latur Singh, from Dulichandpur in Kasganj district.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects had stolen copper, oil, wires, and other materials from a transformer near the vegetable market in the Kotwali Nagar area. Authorities suspect that the duo may be linked to other transformer theft incidents.
From the arrested suspects, police recovered two illegal firearms, three live cartridges, four spent cartridges of .315 bore, a motorcycle without a number plate, a cutter, two pliers, four wrenches, and ₹7,200 in cash.
SP City Etah, Shwetabh Pandey, informed the media that the thieves targeted the transformer to steal copper coils and oil. A similar incident had occurred in the Kotwali Dehat area a few days earlier. Police are interrogating the suspects to gather information about other related crimes.
