Rajkot, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Rajkot police have made significant strides in a cyber fraud case involving an elderly doctor. Just hours after a complaint was filed, authorities arrested two individuals from Ahmedabad on October 3. The suspects allegedly orchestrated a scheme that led to the transfer of approximately ₹58.5 lakh through fraudulent means.
The accused have been identified as Darshan Makwana (34), a resident of the Isanpur area of Ahmedabad, originally from Bhangadh village in the Dholera taluka, and Shubham Parmar (29) from Bhavnagar, who hails from Botad. According to the cyber crime unit, the suspects purportedly allowed cybercriminals to use their company’s bank accounts for a commission, facilitating the transfer of funds obtained through the scam.
Authorities reported that these arrests were made based on technical analysis and bank-related information. The Rajkot cyber crime police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, as well as Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint from the elderly doctor regarding her ‘digital arrest.’ In such scams, fraudsters often impersonate law enforcement or other officials, tricking victims into transferring money under the guise of an investigation.
During the arrests, police confiscated four mobile phones and a laptop, estimating the total value of the seized items at ₹1.20 lakh. The operation was conducted under the supervision of City Police Commissioner Brajesh Kumar Jha and Additional Police Commissioner Chaitanya Mandlik, with further legal action pending.
Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from sharing their bank details, OTPs, passwords, or any sensitive information with unknown callers. They advised the public to be cautious if threatened with arrest or legal action over the phone and to report any suspicious cyber fraud to the official helpline immediately.
