Chandigarh, April 17: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Friday. Early in the morning, an ED team arrived at his home in Ludhiana, with central police forces stationed outside. The raids extended not only to Arora’s residence but also to several other locations associated with him.
According to sources, this operation is linked to an ongoing investigation into money laundering and alleged irregularities in certain land deals. While the ED has not yet released detailed information, discussions regarding the investigation have intensified in political circles.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responded sharply to the raid. Saurabh Bhardwaj, the party’s Delhi president, posted on social media platform X, stating, “The ED has now raided the home of Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora. This is a clear pattern. The BJP begins its preparations for elections in any state in this manner.”
Additionally, Anurag Dhanda, the party’s national media in-charge, criticized the action. He wrote on X, “This is the second raid by the ED against the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab within three days. Now, the ED has raided Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora’s home. The central government has crossed all limits of shamelessness. They are no longer pretending to uphold democratic values; they have declared a dictatorship. What happens with the ED in West Bengal is now justified.”
Previously, on April 15, the ED also raided properties linked to Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, associated with the AAP, in Gurugram, Punjab, and Jalandhar. This investigation reportedly concerns financial irregularities related to university funding.
