Kanniyakumari (Tamil Nadu), April 6 : Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Kanniyakumari District Crime Branch for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh as bribe from a businessman on Tuesday evening. Police sources said here on Wednesday that the complainant R.Sivaguru, who was running a readymade showroom in Nagercoil had given Rs 1.50 crore to a doctor at Punnai Nagar for purchasing a land. Later, Sivaguru came to know that there was a dispute in the property for which he had given the money and asked the doctor either to return the money or make arrangements to register the land on his name without any encumbrance. As he could not get the money, Sivaguru lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police (SP) D.N.Hari Kiran Prasad, who in turn directed the DSP K.Thangavel to investigate the complaint and take appropriate action. The DSP demanded Rs 10 lakh bribe from Sivaguru to settle the issue. After some negotiations, the police official agreed for a Rs 5 lakh bribe. On a complaint from Sivaguru, the DVAC team led by DSP Pater Pauldurai laid a trap and caught red-handed the erring police official while accepting the bribe in his office.
