
Shivpuri, December 6 (Daily Kiran) – A large test balloon belonging to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) landed in a tomato field in Khayabda village, under Sirsod police station area of Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. The balloon, which was released from Agra for meteorological testing, had no personnel onboard.
Upon receiving the report of the balloon’s fall, Sirsod police promptly arrived at the site and took the balloon into custody. The local administration was informed about the incident. Shortly thereafter, an army team also reached the village, conducted a thorough inspection of the balloon, and later took it along to Shyopur for further examination.
According to sources, the balloon fell into the field of Sunil Rawat, a resident of Khayabda village. Equipped with various instruments, the sudden arrival of the balloon caused curiosity and some commotion among the villagers. The police secured the balloon and its devices upon arrival. The army team, after inspecting the equipment, collected all components, including some initially missing parts, which they searched for extensively in the field for over an hour.
The army team did not disclose much information about the balloon or its equipment but confirmed that all items were taken to their centre in Shyopur. Sunil Rawat reported minor damage to his crop due to the incident.
ADM Dinesh Chandra Shukla stated that the balloon was part of a routine weather testing procedure and posed no threat. He clarified that no person was aboard the balloon. Officials assured that necessary actions would be taken after completing the investigation.
