New Delhi, April 27: Our bodies often send subtle signals, but we tend to dismiss them as mere fatigue or effects of the weather. This negligence can lead to serious health issues, particularly with diseases like malaria, where early symptoms can be so common that individuals fail to recognize they are battling an infection.
The Ministry of Ayush recently shared a post on its official social media account, X, highlighting the initial symptoms of malaria. The first signs include severe chills and shivering. Suddenly, one may feel an intense cold, leading to uncontrollable shaking. Following this, a high fever can develop, which sometimes escalates significantly. Many people mistake this for a typical viral fever, but the fever pattern in malaria is distinctly different.
Additionally, severe headaches are common. Individuals may feel a heaviness in their heads and find it hard to concentrate on tasks. Weakness and lethargy also increase, leaving one feeling exhausted throughout the day. In some cases, nausea and vomiting may occur, further weakening the patient.
As the fever subsides, excessive sweating often follows. Clothes can become soaked, and the body feels utterly drained. In some instances, diarrhea may also occur, raising the risk of dehydration.
The biggest concern is that many people take these initial symptoms lightly. They assume it’s just a reaction to changing weather and that they will recover on their own. However, if malaria is not detected in time, it can become severe and affect multiple organs in the body.
Therefore, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately if someone experiences recurrent chills, high fever, headaches, vomiting, or excessive sweating. Early treatment can effectively resolve this illness.
